Shoe Size 12

Shoe Size 12 “I’m not weird, I’m just wired differently.”                                  -‘Dude, I’m An Aspie.’ When you walk in a crowd, do you ever feel as if you are somehow walking on a different path? When you speak with a bunch of people, do you feel as if you don’t quite agree completely to what they have to say, even though everyone else agrees? Do you ever feel as if you belong in a group, and yet not quite? If you do, proceed to the next set of questions: Do you randomly sing to yourself in public places? Do you randomly scribble notes in a textbook? Do you lick off the cream before you eat your biscuit? Do you have a laugh that sounds odd? Do you casually do your dance jig in the middle of the road while you are walking? Do you not care if you wear red polka-dot pants with a fluorescent pink shirt? Do you...

Happy New Year

Happy New Year “For last year's words belong to last year's language  And next year's words await another voice.”                                                        ―  T.S. Eliot ( Four Quartets ) Tonight, we come together to celebrate the curtain call of another year. A year that passed by in the blink of an eye, but left a deep impact on our lives. A year full of new beginnings, new endings, new experiences to learn from- to accept and incorporate into our lives. According to Sir Alfred Lord Tennyson, there is a beautiful reason to why the new year is to be a happy one. He says, “Hope Smiles from the threshold of the year to come,  Whispering ‘it will be happier’...” I find his word...

Be True To Yourself

Be True To Yourself. “This above all: To thine own self be true…” - William Shakespeare We are the future, what is to become. We are everyone’s hope, the forthcoming carriers of the world. We are expected to be mentally competent, physically fit and emotionally strong. We must be able to cope with the world, show our true potential and push the limit to and then beyond the sky. But how are we supposed to triumph over these expectations, if we are unaware of our own aptitude? We face a very different world, today. Way different than what it was in Shakespearean times. Yet his words pertain to us just as aptly. In a world so demanding, so harsh, so vigorous, we need something to ground us, to make sense of our being. We need to confide, have faith and know our boundaries and limits. And for that… Well, we must be true to our owneth self. What is the self? It is perceived to be our inner mirror. Something that reflects our every deed. It is our conscience, pricking us when...

The Child In You

The Child In You “A grownup is a child with layers on…”                                          - Woody Harrelson   We all adore children, don’t we? We marvel at their curiosity, their innocence, and their blissful oblivion to worldly matters. We try to protect them from the ‘cold and harsh’ world outside, right up to the time we think they may be ready to bear the brunt of it. We wish they could remain children forever, never grow up, and never complicate their lives… Being midway through my teens myself, I do find that I miss my childhood. Yes, for many, fifteen is still being a child, but I’d say fifteen is the new eighteen! Fifteen year-olds today have way too many responsibilities; we have seen way too much of the ‘cold, harsh’ world to remain children anymore. We...

Speak Your Mind

SPEAK YOUR MIND "Speak your mind... Even if your voice shakes..."                                                   -Maggie Kuhn        Our race, the human race, has been bestowed with a gift... A gift of the ability to form an opinion. It's a beautiful gift, because it allows us to have an insight about a particular concept or topic. Because we have the power to have an opinion, we can change perceptions, we can ease our lives by changing perception. And voicing one's opinion makes him stronger, more confident to face a world that is changing at rapid pace, becoming more and more tight, more competitive, and yet more accepting, and rather happening. I happened to come across a beautiful song, apt for this...

...To New Endings..

...TO NEW ENDINGS... "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anybody can start today and make a new ending..." - Maria Robinson     People often say endings are difficult. They mark a closure, a termination of a certain thing- an event, a relationship, a book. We don't want to adjust to these endings, we want to prolong the story- just a little bit longer. Going towards an ending is like walking towards a cliff. Once you reach the end, you jump off, not knowing where you're going to end up. Almost all of us are scared of this 'not knowing' part.  But I believe endings are most misunderstood. An ending is a beautiful thing. It leaves behind memories. It offers you the chance to let go. The best part about ends, is that you can start over if you don't like the current one. It gives one the opportunity to rest the current chapter, breathe and then start a new one, with a fresh mind and a new perspective, taking into account what is learnt...
